Been hearing a lot about Netflix sports team analogy and culture deck - “adequate performance gets a good severance package” - I’m a good performer but value stability. Don’t want to join and be told to take a walk in 3 months if I don’t meet the bar. Netflix folks - pls take this poll to help me figure out how many of you have long term careers at Netflix (also open to ex Netflix employees)
Ppl at netflix for 5+ yrs who took a lot of call options, I want to hear fun stories of how rich you are. Go!
Didn’t take as much as I should have in hindsight and sold all mine in 2011 and 2012. Still have everything from 2013 on. I invested $50k on average each year since 2013 and have nearly $4mm now.
4mm tied to a single stock!!!! I too like to live dangerously but joined way too late 😃.
I’m not convinced you can draw conclusions via answers from blended current and former employees.
It’s a start
Consider also that Netflix hired like crazy last 8 years.
I don’t think NFLX is the company for you if you value stability. The culture roots don’t encourage this. Most of their engineers follow through with the same answer during the recruiting process meaning it might be on some slide deck: If you are smart enough to work at NFLX; you would get a job anywhere. Don’t let the stability part deter you. You would learn a lot and the NFLX brand would add value to your resume. Personally speaking, they are atleast forthcoming with this unlike many other companies in the valley.
Just don’t want a blip on my cv. Want to work atleast 3 years if I go there. And don’t want a sword around my neck all the time. Also do they keep you on rolls or fire on the spot?
Again, you are trying to optimize for the wrong metric. Most companies (future employers) are very open to discuss these blips as they are self explanatory. Getting fired from one place doesn’t have much to do with how smart you are. It’s just that you weren’t able to adjust to their culture. A ex Nflx employee can comment on the firing part. You seem on h1b and hence worried? FWIW, nflx hr can be a hard ass sometimes. They rescinded my offer due to some mis-communication over relocation; But don’t let that deter you. I am sure it was a one off incident.
