I’ve had some issues with depression since my teens and lately I’ve felt that there are feelings and emotions that my anti depressants are suppressing as a byproduct of keeping me stable. I’ve been off anti depressants and it is not an option for me.

I did a ketamine therapy and while it did leave me feeling a little more open it was not the right tool to unlock the experience I want to have. My particular anti depressants seem to block Psilocybin and as I need the anti depressants to function, they are not an option.

Are ayhuasca retreats for mental health an excuse for exotic drugs in exotic locales or can they legitimately help? I don’t want to do a path of try every drug until I find the exact drug that’s going to get me to exploring that part of myself but I also feel that’s a huge blocker in a lot of areas in my life.

Ayhauasca is very extreme. Psychedelics are not to be taken lightly. Your post says you’ve been off antidepressants but in the second paragraph it says you’re on them? Have you truly explored all avenues of trying to better, for example

    Are you exercising?
Are you getting 8 hours of sleep consistently?
How much time do you spend on your phone? How much time do you spend on social media?
Are you eating well? High quality foods?
Are you setting goals for yourself and working towards them everyday with little wins here and there?
    How’s your social circle?
    Have you tried daily meditation
Do you have baggage? Have you tried working through this baggage with a therapist?
Any addiction or vices that are bringing you down?

It’s important to take care of low hanging fruit before you start to mess with psychedelics. Bad trips can sometimes fuck you up.

I’m also not insisting on taking ayhuasca in particular. I just know they have retreats where you take them in a somewhat controlled environment (obviously depends on the facility) which appeals to me, the same reason ketamine therapy appealed to me but didn’t really give me the breakthrough I was hoping for

One thing to keep in mind is almost none of us are “cured”, we all experience ebbs and flows. I’ve dealt with depression my whole life and at this point I’ve realized that I will never truly beat it 100%, but I’ve learned to manage it and I’m pretty okay these days. Just make sure that your north star isn’t feeling like bliss 100% of time.

I was also depressed. ☘️ Didn't solved my problems. But it showed me what I want in life. Once know what I wanted I started pursuing it.

Blocking your feelings with medicine won't help you in long run. Instead take hard path. Ask yourself why are you feeling certain way and what can you do to overcome it.

Stay away from negative thoughts cause it's very easy to go on that trip and wallow.

Start excercising/adopt a hobby/do something very easy, to keep you distracted. and improve little by little. If you sit free doing nothing for sure you will encounter such thoughts.

That's big cap. Guarantee you were already addicted to that before you had any problems. And then your addiction made you think it was "healing everything" when really you were just chemically dependent on it

This isn’t the way. Aya is very eye opening for some, but don’t expect any drug to solve all your problems permanently. You probably know people who have tried it. They still have problems in their life.

@helloem uhhh I don't think you need to use drugs to try to figure out what the issues are.

I’ve been in therapy from residential programs. to weekly and bi weekly sessions for 8 years. I don’t see this as a cure or a regular treatment but a way to get past blockers that I have been dealing with for at least half that time
