Do companies usually wait for 6-7 months to wait for a student to graduate before one starts out?

I'm finishing a graduate degree (MSc in CS, Canada), and I think I did really well in a few interviews for some companies (namely, EA and a few startups). Do you think companies would usually wait for one to graduate before hiring them? I will be able to legally work full time only from May. I know they do wait for new grad positions, but the positions I have potential offers for are SDE-2 / intermediate positions as I have many years of experience before doing an MSc. I was just wondering if there's a strong possibility they would rescind the offer and if I would need to continue job hunting in April/May again.

I've definitely seen offers rescinded during 2008-2009 and when the pandemic began. Rescinding offers is very likely the first cost cutting move before layoffs and pay cuts so it's always a possibility.

If things stay as-is, stable companies likely won't rescind.

Thanks for your insights. I'll stay at the tip of my toes I think, and plan for another wave of job hunting 1-2 months before graduating.

Some may take them in as Interns until they graduate and then they become fulltime.

Straight answer: Yes they will rescind offers.

You gotta join within 2 weeks - 1 months because the offer you have is for experienced hires which you got because of your previous work ex

It also seems like you lied to them regarding graduation date because otherwise companies might not have taken interest

My CV stated my expected graduation date, so I didn't lie about anything. The topic for joining date just didn't come up during the tech/HR interviews.

In the defense space I've seen companies regularly hire over a year in advance before graduation. It works out pretty well because of the security clearance investigation wait times and since their work is fueled by government contracts they have exact project timeline funding in years.

Depends on the company, depends on if you were applying for a specifically new grad role. This should have been communicated or discussed during the interview period.

My guess is no rescind if they are a large company.
