I’ve left Bloomberg and currently work at a notoriously cutthroat high TC company (not Amazon) in an E5 equivalent software engineer position. My manager says I’m not meeting expectations although I’m giving my best effort.
I have an SWE offer to join one of Airbnb, Lyft, Uber in an E5 equivalent SWE position.
Right now I care more about WLB, mental health and job security than maximizing TC. I could be happy with high L4 comp. My main concern is that the offer might be rescinded if I ask for a downlevel. But I don’t have a relevant degree and seem better at interviewing than at software engineering. I have 6 YOE.
Should I ask for a downlevel? Why or why not?
