L6 PM at Google (close to L7) considering interviewing with BCG digital ventures and trying to get some sense of : 1) What is culture like? Open? Is it more consulting like or tech like? 2) Work and impact 3) work life balance 4) comp 5) internal mobility - how easy is it to move offices, roles etc? TC - 400k
But, why? Is the pay significantly higher?
The premise of the business is developing their ideas as small startups, either funded internally by BCG's partners, or either other partners, and spinning them off. Not really sure they can compete on tech talent or execution, and their competitive advantage really only comes through their consulting arm's relationships.
You’ll be going from first class citizen to second or third. Consultants are the bread and better of MBB. They will demand client services lifestyle: 60 hours minimum a week, expected to be on call with your corporate phone at all times, and a huge lack of respect for your time. You do get to travel on the company’s dime, but don’t expect to have time to sightsee. You’ll be working from your hotel room a lot while seeing tourists and families enjoying their vacations.
WLB is poor.
Did you get the offer?
Following, anyone else have insights on BCG DV that are first hand?
Yes, DM me
The culture is pretty bad to begin with- even toxic. Not at all like BCG classic. Yes the comments made by folks are true.. you will always be second class citizen compared to consulting staff. There is a huge variation in TC between DV and consulting staff. You will be close to little over half of your existing TC there. But more importantly, the projects have all but gone. Most of the new work now is digital transformation. You will have to be in the right place at right time to get a real build or innovative venture. Although if you want to get a crash course MBA and understand tge end to end experience. It might be a good temp gig. If you have specific questions, please feel free to DM me

Interviewed there a few years ago. People there seemed to think overly high of themselves. Maybe they were insecure? Is this for their Los Angeles office?
