Received an offer at BCG at the Senior Associate level, with a $120k base salary. I’m currently at Strategy&, at the level equivalent to BCG’s Consultant level making 25% more in base than the $120k offer. My college peers at BCG have been Consultants for ~9 months now. The path from Senior Associate to Consultant would be ~12 months. Has anyone recruited laterally from a similar position and have insights or tips on negotiating on level / salary?
I don’t have experience negotiating as consultant but your new offer is a significant down-level and if I were you, I wouldn’t take it.
What is the total comp?
I’d go for it to get BCG on your resume. See how close they can come to matching ur current TC
The bonuses at both BCG and S& look similar (25% range) so TC for BCG ends up around $150k whereas at S& I’d be making closer to $190k
The BCG brand and network will open a lot more doors
Is it really lateral at 120k? I thought MBAs made at least 180k at BCG. At least that's what Amazon pays MBAs without tech degree.
I don’t have an MBA; I joined S& out of undergrad and got promoted to our post-MBA level. It’s equivalent in terms of where my college peers (also non-MBA) are at BCG
Hmmm but do consulting firms discriminate MBAs and non-MBAs for the same level though? I remember watching a Bain presentation for undergrads that they even talk about "fast track" which is basically getting to the post-MBA level faster by not doing an MBA. At least in that presentation they framed as indifferent in terms of salary, treatment and even faster shirt term career advancement.
Yea 120k sounds weird. Post MBA should be around 180.
I don’t think it’s post MBA. The BCG offer on table is preMBA
Got it. But it’s still very low? If it’s senior associate position, it is post mba level right?
Absolutely go to BCG. You will be gate kept from some tiers of jobs by not having gone MBB.
BCG is like having an ivy league school on your resume. I'd go for it.
120k does not sound right though
120k is like being the food truck guy at Harvard Jk, he said 120k+20% or something... Which isn't nothing for non tech

The end of Backdoor Roth?!
Why would you move to take a pay cut? You can either ask if they will match, or pass on it.
Absolutely wrong answer. You will be earning more than PWC peers in 18 months. Bonus is also likely to be higher already in year one. Network and exit opportunities at PWC are not even close.
