I don't really follow Oracle but have heard many hate stories about them in the past. How is it working for them as an engineer? How is the engineering culture there? I am asking about Seattle office. Thanks!

  • The work is actually great, building out a cloud from scratch -> most Engineers dream. Also it's not the old Oracle, very dynamic and start up like. On top of it the comp is great if you negotiate well.

i would say, never ever ever ever join oracle. Its the worst tech company to be in . It does not matter whether you are working at Oracle Redwood shores or Seattle. The average talent pool here is quite mediocre and the pay is below market. No annual hikes or bonuses. And if once in a while you happen to get 1 or 2k as bonus, cobsider yourself luck. Absolutely crap company if you want yo increase professionaly as well monetarily. Been here for last 4 years, will be out within a month.

Well, the mixed replies so far have made it even more confusing. Let me be more specific, should an SDE 3 at Amazon consider joining Oracle?

If it was me, I would stay away . Try switchibg to Google, FB, Uber, Airbnb in Seattle itself. Its all downhill from the moment you would join Oracle.

Seems like Seattle Oracle team and rest of Oracle are very different. Although for all I know he's right about raises, etc. Haven't been here long enough to speak to that

Or try switching to a good team in Microsoft. Make Microsoft beat the Oracle offer which they would.
