Interested in knowing more about working at BMW in Germany. I saw there’s a Munich office but not sure about others.

I want to know about software scope - what kind of projects you are working on, how’s the interview process, do you get a car to drive around (perks) etc.

Just basically comments on working at bmw.

Thanks!

There is an entire part of the city that belong to BMW. Headquarter is in Munich. There is a campus for autonomous driving. Perks for employees: 25% on BMW and 23% on mini discount for new cars. We also have a dealership only for employees. Never been there though. Lots of software going on. From embedded to web. Interview process varies a lot by department but you can expect a phone interview with genetic questions depending on the role and then an on-site. Usually 2-3 hours with coding exercises and HR/manager if you pass. DM me for details.

In the US, every full-time employee has an option to lease a vehicle at a ridiculously low rate. Management gets a free lease. In Munich, only management can enter into the lease program and I do not know what their cost is.

Project scope/process and technologies differ depending on which product you are working on.

Interview process is fairly standard. Meet with various employees, coding/design challenge, background check, etc.

Drug test in US, no test in Germany

Be mindful that software development at BMW is not very challenging and most of the time is spent in processes. The salaries are good but the work is pretty boring.

In general BMW is all about politics and you’ll find plenty of people in Munich doing nothing just because the labor union is very strong that it’s impossible to fire people. Just a few push hard for the company. It is very sad.
