Tech companies that give full maternity leave to recent hires

Jul 23, 2020 6 Comments

I am looking to switch jobs to a different tech company as I have been here at microsoft for quite some time. At the same time I am also trying to get pregnant.

Alot of companies have an eligibilty criteria for maternity leave, for example at Amazon you get the full leave only if youโ€™ve worked for 3 months or more, otherwise its a smaller duration.

What tech companies dont have this eligibilty criteria? would hate to leave the 5 months i get here at MSFT for a smaller leave if I get pregnant soon. Delaying pregnancy is not an option for me as weโ€™ve been trying for quite some time, and have just started IUI cycles, may possibly pursue IVF soon.

I wouldn't mix the stress from onboarding to a new company with the stress of becoming a parent. Babies don't magically turn off when your parental leave ends, and a 5-month old takes a lot of energy.
It may be better for you to weather the tumultuous period in a familiar environment (i.e. MS) and then move.

I had the same issue awhile back and ended up staying through pregnancy and a year after I returned from leave. Microsoft was great about letting me mostly work from home after I returned and it was a great place to be with infants.

Maybe something you could negotiate into your comp package if they don't usually offer it?
