I recently interviewed at Quora for a backend engineering role. The people I interacted with seemed very nice, they asked very good questions during the interview and I enjoyed the day being with them. The office space was relaxing - at times it didn't feel like an office to me. How is Quora's backend engineering team and its leadership?
Product sucks
Backend is pretty strong team, bunch of staff engineers, director of the unit was in leadership at Pinterest, other recent senior hires from Google and Microsoft. I will say that it is definitely a difficult role, Quora has been around for long enough to accumulate tech debt and we're in the process of moving to new tech eg kubernetes, but there is good leadership and buy-in to do useful stuff
I think better question is its exit plan. Like ppl do use it but now seems like a junk/dumpster full of old questions. I don’t know. Just a user perspective. Perhaps I should use more?
Agree. Product has gone downhill dramatically, and they’re clearly struggling to figure out how to raise engagement and quality of questions/answers. The long-term plan is completely unclear and seems fraught.
