TLDR :- Currently working in a domain which I am passionate about but very bad wlb and also feels a little toxic. Have an offer with a lot better pay but If I accept could miss a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to work in the current domain and equity growth. I am a software engineer and just joined a startup full-time two months back. In the future, I want to start my own startup and most likely it will be in the crypto domain that is why I picked the current company and was very excited about it. I knew the wlb won't be that good but it's worse than I expected it to be. I have been constantly grinding and even working on weekends still my performance is very bad. I am having impostor syndrome and also doubting my skills. Maybe due to lack of knowledge and the constant pressure of delivering things fast and also because I didn't take any breather between jobs, I am having a hard time and it has affected my performance even more. The culture also seems toxic although there are a lot of issues with my work which I agree with. I have an opportunity that is starting tomorrow also as a full-time engineer in another startup. Both of these jobs are completely remote. It seems like the new one has a better wlb and they are paying almost 3x the current company but will decide equity after 6 months of performance. They are also working on interesting stuff but the company is not in the crypto domain which is the only downside that I see. I am not sure what to do, I was thinking of doing both at the same time and then deciding which to pick but honestly won't be able to manage both of them. Joining this new company feels like moving away from my dreams but it's been very hard at the current one. I am hoping the work might reduce when we have shipped the major parts of the product. Also, I am learning a lot about the crypto space which I like a lot. It also seems like I am running away from a fight and giving up, if it had been that I was doing well or ok I might have felt easier leaving the current company. I also don't want to miss a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity as I think the crypto company could be very big in the future but it's a very low chance. Also, money is not at the top most on my priority list as my current pay is more than enough for my needs. Should I leave the current one and join the new one or stay in the same and work through it. New company name ? Booking ?
No, it's a small startup. Can't reveal it due to anonymity.
If the position is in india go for it with 86 lpa , and join the startup when you see it growing.
86 lakh cash? Btw passion vs good life is one of the biggest tradeoff one has to make. I am afraid it's you will have to make the decision. If I would have been in your place I would have chosen the 86 base offer as life is much more than work for me
Yes pre tax salary
How did you connect with the startup? Also us or Indian startup?
If that 1% equity is the stake in the company, I would stick to the company and give it my best. If the company becomes an unicorn, that 1% will be worth 78Cr.
So its more like 1% profit since its a crypto company its not exactly equity
The profit is whatever their crypto app makes in fees . I will get like 1% of that .
