I was hired in March 2020 as AVP with 10+ years of experience at that time. Did I get lowballed? How do I ask for a VP level now? How much salary should I expect? I am in tech and current salary is $132k.
TC is less than an entry level SDE. Bank title inflation
What is AVP?
Assistant Vice President
That's 2 level below CEO?
Nope everybody has that title at the bank lol .. all junior software engineers too
What kind of tech and location? I make the same at 2 yoe
Ok let’s get on track again. I am a new mother and don’t want a hectic job. But I don’t want to get stagnant at the bank either. What can I do? My skill set is in big data technologies and I have been reached out by Amazon etc couple of times but never interviewed because of the wlb there. But I know I am making way less than my potential.
Plenty of tech with good wlb, like adobe and linkedin that pays higher than 150k, this of course is subject to location
To be fair, Amazon reaches out to everyone on LinkedIn. I’m not trying to down play your knowledge/skill , but I do want you to be aware of often they send recruiting messages. Furthermore, Amazons interview process is several orders of magnitude higher than BofAs, generally speaking.
Hello! It seems like a lowball because I recently was offered AVP with less than 2 YOE. I guess you can ask for a promotion. Also, from what I've heard these titles don't matter much in banks but the band does. So if the promotion gives you a higher band, that's a real win. Edit: What's your role in BofA? Please correct me if I'm wrong.
I’d say so. I have 3-4 years of professional experience and make $120k in Charlotte, NC. I’d miss the place because I enjoy my work, but I’ll be leaving for $150k and mainly because RTO policy being forced on me.
Where are you leaving to?
What's your role at BofA?
Title change to VP will not increase your salary. It’s one of the easiest promotion you can get. You should talk to your manager about getting that title bump. And then you should discuss your path to a BAND bump, which will come with a salary increase. I would say though.. if you’re comfortable with your pay and responsibility, I wouldn’t sweat it. Working for that BAND bump requires so much effort for so little pay increase. Better to look outside with decent experience.
Agreed! Currently a B5 working on a band promotion to B4. It’s very difficult like walking in water!
Thank you folks!
