Barclays Forward Outlook

Hi everyone, Was wondering if anyone who works or have worked at Barclays knows about the potential future outlook for Barclays. Just wondering how Barclays stacks up, if they have been investing in their human capital, do you see any signs of growth in the firm, and how good are they on internal mobility. Overall, I know they are a really good bank. However, I want to hear all of your opinions on the specifics. I got an offer in the Finance Division and want to have as much information as possible so I can make a well informed decision. Would definitely appreciate any answers, info, or advise you all can give. Thanks! #finance

Congratulations on the offer, not sure what level you got, B4/B5/B6? Anyways, do you invest in stocks actively?

Thank you! Not sure what b4/b5/b6 is. Sorry for my lack of knowledge in that but do you mind explaining? I do know its an Analyst position. Yes I invest but not actively at the moment. However, I am planning on actively investing again. I find it fun.

Ba4 etc are just roles within the company. Depends on your level of experience. If you do plan on investing and your deemed “high risk” based off what your exposed to at work they may make you clear every trade with them (can be annoying for some , probably why creditshop was asking)

At Barclay’s currently in NYC. I think it’s a good global bank with a decently deal making steam relative to the other IBs out there, but honesty, I think investment banking is shrinking and will have their lunch eaten by the tech companies starting with human capital and talent. We’re having terrible time hiring and retaining good talent because we might offer a grad analyst in tech 110k in comp the first year, but any of the major tech or fintech companies can easily offer 30-50k more starting. Pay growth is only a percentage or two above inflation.

Thanks your for your response! What do you think about their internal mobility process? I ask because my ultimate goal is to work in the Corporate & Investment Banking division, so whatever choice I make Im hoping it can lead me closer to my ultimate goal. As a brief intro, I interned in Mizuho’s Investment Banking Division but did not receive a return offer apparently due to a hiring freeze. I graduated in May 2017 and I currently work at GS, and I have an offer with Barclays in their Finance Division. Any advice will be much appreciated. Also, if all else fails then I will go get my MBA.

Analyst roles are usually B4 roles. As swoog mentioned, they won’t let you or anyone in your household trade stocks without notifying them every time you buy and sell. And the minimum time between buy and sell should be 30 days which means you aren’t allowed to trade actively. Imagine the market is going down and you are waiting for the approval from them to sell it, smh

By the way you didn’t mention your TC?

Goldman Sachs Wall St OP Jan 3, 2020

Salary is 75K and TC is 88K in my current role in GS. Barclays is offering 80K in salary, and the bonus im not sure how much it will be at Barclays so not really sure what my TC will be at Barclays.

I think Barclays has made a lot of strides in IB these past few years. It’s very much a top 5 / 6 BB at this point. That being said, it’s not Goldman or JP Morgan and there are certainly some groups that have room to improve. The firm seems to be investing in those groups, so hopefully such investment will pay off.
