Relocated from out if state to SF. not looking to have debates about car ownership, I like to drive places on weekends that aren’t practical other ways, and dont want to constantly rent. Any particularrly good or bad insurance companies out here, or are they all about the same? I see myself owning a home at some point sooner rather than later, so homeowners’ insurance may end up at the same place.
Are you using Tesla insurance as a Tesla or non Tesla owner? I’m a non Tesla owner.
Yes it’s for Tesla only right now forgot sorry. I don’t think it matters, just find the best coverage for competitive price. At the end of the day they all have to follow the same laws and regulations
Weird flex but ok
Metromile by far cheapest also wasn't created by your grandparents
In my experience their prices are about the same as any other company unless you only drive your car occasionally. If you commute by car their price advantage is quickly wiped out.
I had best result with AAA and Geico. AAA service is fantastic. But as always, your leg work and shop around. And don’t get that insurance which they advertise on KMEL and other rap/rnb stations. I have no idea how they still in business with these low rates
using geico here
Geico is good but your car will get rebuilt with generic (not factory oem) if you have an accident.
Amica or USAA. The rest are 3rd tier. Check satisfaction rarings like Consumer Reports, etc to see that these two are far and away the best.
Is there a way in to USAA as a non service member? Brother in law, grandfather (long deceased) and aunts/uncles served, but I did not.
Call and ask...
Check consumer ratings. All companies are not created equal- far from it. Like with all things, you get what you pay for.

Tesla insurance has been great so far. Much cheaper than USAA and progressive for me. But I think they are all about the same at the end of the day.
I've heard great things, and if I hadn't moved out of CA I would probably be on it too. AAA is what I've generally used as they have a great reputation (albeit with a higher pricetag). OP: my auto insurance premiums went up by about a factor of 3 when I moved to SF. Be prepared for the potential sticker shock
