What Bay Area companies have an unlimited PTO policy?
Palantir
I get about 7 days a year max. And I don't get paid for the days I didn't take. Sneaky way for companies to escape paying for the days not taken off.
Unlimited PTO is a fancy term companies came up with to not pay employees money when they leave the companies. The companies that have unlimited PTO have a guidence of what's the expected number of days you can take time off. The horrible thing with unlimited PTO is if you get a bad manager they can srew you and not give you any PTO at all.
Western Digital has unlimited PTO. I've taken at least 3 weeks every year.
So as much you would have even if you didn't have unlimited PTO
I started at Netflix 5 months ago and have since taken 3 weeks off. When I asked about my performance I was told I am doing well. mahalo's comment above is certainly true, but the are other good stories associated with unlimited PTO.
Take at your own risk! Depending on your team/manager you might be made to feel 'guilty' after you come back and it seems like they give you difficult task as a revenge or punishment. And they certainly make you feel more much reluctant to request PTOs in the future. There is no such thing as unlimited PTO as you would wish. It is a vague definition that can involve many twists and turns that bite you without you knowing.
5 weeks last year. 3 + 2.
In nvidia, unlimited PTO is a sham. Some people are not getting any, and some are taking leaves every other month ! I would rather have a fixed PTO which I can use whenever I want without my manager making me feel guilty, when I take it.
I take about 3 weeks each year.
I just had PTO Saturday and Sunday
That wasn’t paid
