We all try so hard to be likeable and smart in our interviews... the guy on the other side - he is like us too, but in his hands lies your future. Some of these interviewers are really nice, some of them are strict, some of them are friendly but don’t care and then there are some you would like to never see again. This is a true story - I interviewed at a small company... the first interviewer was super strict and was trying hard to trip me. the second one was ok... and then the third and final interview- I met the most wonderful and amazing interviewer - it was refreshing - it felt like an amazing conversation between friends... as if we knew each other forever. We both laughed till there were tears in our eyes... I got selected - yaay! I was super excited to work with her. She was amazing! Unfortunately the company couldn’t match my expected TC. I then got into Amazon... tracked down this interviewer on linkedin, and referred her to my team. She was amazing but never even considered another company before my invite. I encouraged her and helped her with the prep - she just accepted the offer and joined my team this week. All because she was nice to me. Never underestimate the power of just being nice even if you think you have nothing to gain from it.
Will you get married?
I cannot condone cronyism
This ain’t cronyism
Lunchmeat !!! You again!!!
Yes, it goes all the way. It is basic psychology and human relations.
True!
You are either the nicest Amazonian or just a troll. Can’t figure out which one.
You invited her to Amazon?? Damn...
Great! Really loved this. Good karma.
This is great to hear! I was once asked by a recruiter to interview someone who clearly lacked the experience I was looking for, so I used the interview to find out their interests and was able to refer them to a more suitable opportunity and they got the job. I did it anonymously, and hope they do the same for someone in future
That is such a cool thing you did. What was the more suitable opportunity for her? Did you mean another team or another role such as HR or recruiting ?
This was in engineering, our recruiter did not understand that her experience was not a match although some keywords matched. I referred outside, to another company
Blind needs more positive vibes like this. Need to even out the toxicity
Aww... thank you Capital One eh8h1a - comments like this is what makes me want to post on blind. We need more positive comments like this to even out the hateful ones which ask me if I am trolling after I take the time and effort to share what happened. Thank you again!
Also DM me your LinkedIn profile if you want to join Amazon
Is that like the tech version of "meet cute"?
I had to look up “meet cute “. Damn! Should have written a book instead... oh well!
