The HR Director is a nightmare at this organization. From altering peoples exit interview responses to making snye comments such as “well maybe you should look for something else...hell, everyone else is!” She is very intimidated by educated staff and often encourages the best of us to leave and search for something better. A new hire was fired 3 days after starting on the grounds that he was sleeping at his workststion. I was his neighbor and NEVER saw that. I did hear him asking very important questions about questionable practices of the organization. This company is a nitemare. Beware of EducationWorks.
So just take the advice and leave! You don't need that bs!
(Thanks!! I’m looking and applying!)
Sleeping at the work station is okay, so long as you were working all night and not because you were drink or on drugs.
Why did you approach the HR director?
I didn’t approach her. She said this to me after our reorganization due to loss of funding.
“Nitemare”
HR can’t be trusted: EVER. Their allegiance will always be to the company. They were hired to protect the company and manage you. You are simply an asset, but many of you get comfortable and sleep on this fact. You start talking about loyalty and caring, and mistake your relationships with individual people as the company viewing you as more than a line item on a spreadsheet. You are an asset. You are a cost. Unless it’s your company - as in you run and own it, stop being a loyal dog. If you’re unhappy fight back or f*** off and find something better. So she’s a bully, what are you going to do? (Also, you are not anonymous to the people you work with because of the details you’ve provided.)
An asset and a liability ( you used the word cost) are two different things. Most people have a low ROI. So you’re actually a low value liability. When you go higher up, you can become an asset but again, you’ll always be a low value asset. To be a high value asset, you’ll need to work at a high performance rate and deliver a direct positive impact to revenue. HR folks are good, they are definitely there for the company. If the HR director is mean, you may want to find another job.
Asset versus liability is in the eye of the person(s) you slave for since they are the ones determining your worth and value in the greater context of the business. Being high up doesn’t guarantee your worth over others. It’s a cuddly thought but it can simply mean you have a lot of power, resources, and influence entrusted upon you to either become a great asset or a great liability. You’re still a line item like the rest. Many of us have worked for higher ups who were worthless. So don’t fool yourself. Thanks for echoing my point. Point taken on “cost.”
How do you know they’re altering exit interviews?
The HR Generalist showed me because she thought she was crazy, but the Google doc history shows the changes and who made them.
Who’s intimidated by educated staff? They must have some low self esteem issues.
This is just the OP’s side of things...
Got it!

Steve Jobs on HR: “I’ve never met one of you who didn’t suck. I’ve never known an HR person who had anything but a mediocre mentality.”
Tbf Steve doesn’t have a reputation of being a swell guy either.
But he wasn't mediocre or had a mediocre mentality
