Being a top performer as a new grad at Google

Jan 17, 2019 8 Comments

As I have just started, and initial 6 months typically go in training and stuff- how do I achieve the top performer rating in first performance evaluation cycle.

Looking for genuine advice and suggestions.

Thanks in advance.

Launch a product that actually solves a problem ( we probably have six or seven of those ) otherwise be prepared to ask the same question after six years at G.

The bar will only get higher every time. Why is a top performer rating so important out of the gate? When do you plan to retire? Cuz however many years that is, are you expecting that every year? Pace yourself

Get to the point advice: if you truly focus on doing what they ask of you brilliantly every day + impress all you work with on the soft skills side every day + deliver multiple things no one asked for that are hugely beneficial + not ask about how to get a top score in every other 1:1 but rather map out your thoughts on your progress, point out things you're working to get better at, and ask for input if any course corrections are needed + market all of the above without alienating people... You've got a shot

Get top performer rating is easy: you just do any task you are given in a day or two (max is one week). Of course, do this well (no bugs, decent testing). And make sure you're are doing what's expected to be done.
