Hi, I will be moving to Seattle shortly to work for Amazon and just on the fence about confirming a place to live. We have seen places in Bellevue close to Factoria and in Issaquah Highlands that we equally liked. Now I am just wondering which one would be a relatively easier commute via public transit or Amazon Shuttle if they really have one. Any ideas or inputs?
Issaquah Highlands is pretty convenient because there’s a larger park and ride that has at least a couple of routes that go to downtown. There’s also a shuttle that picks up at Lake Sammamish state park I believe. I know I’ve seen a AWS bus picking up at Sunset North (right next to the Eastgate Park and Ride), not sure if it services all Amazon offices or if it’s specific to AWS. Then of course there’s the actual Eastgate P&R, but the Seattle buses pick up and drop off at the carpool overpass. So basically, you’d have some good options either way. From a public transit point of view, the routes typically start in the highlands so you have a better chance of avoiding standing room only. However, getting on and off the plateau from that area can get pretty ugly at the wrong time of day.
What is the typical commute time from issaquah, by the way ?
I used to drive from Issaquah highlands to port99. I shared my ride and used carpool lane. It’s usually 30-40 minutes drive time - from my garage to office garage. But the regular lane traffic looks awful. I expect 1 hour of drive if I drive alone... Now I take bus. Route 218/219 is nice since it’s straight to downtown and if you start from Issaquah highlands and port99/Blackfoot/Oscar/LFH/Alexandera you are guaranteed of a seat. The bus takes 45 minutes from PnR to 8th and olive.
That’s not bad at all. 45 minutes is pretty standard and acceptable commute
Travel is a pain if you're not in Seattle downtown. Another place you can check out is Near U Village. Unless you have kids or don't plan on buying a place to live and c, Seattle downtown would be easy option

Bellevue will be easier commute to seattle downtown
Thanks for your input. I heard that Amazon has a shuttle that commutes from Issaquah to Sea Downtown, do you know if thats true? Also, do they are any such services from Bellevue? Asking since the public transit commute time shows more with bus changes from Bellevue than from Issaquah.
Amazon has shuttles that go between downtown and bellevue campuses, but the question then becomes how are you going to get to the bellevue campus. Driving from eastside to downtown via 90 isn't too bad, but that direction gets slow probably around 7:30 or so if you care about traffic.
