Like many engineers my shitty little body doesn't look great in off-the-rack suits (even nice ones). I'm interested in getting something more custom, but it's really difficult to tell who's legit out there. I suspect most results on Yelp for "bespoke" are outsourcing to made-to-measure sweatshops somewhere. Does anyone have recommendations in Seattle/Eastside for a solid suit + shirt tailoring experience? I noticed that Mario's now has a made-to-measure option which seems attractive because I expect that they will be more fashion-forward -- but I haven't seen any reliable reviews of their work. Thanks all!
My friend has an awesome custom suit startup in Seattle and other major cities. It’s called Chookhare and Sons
Just moved to Seattle so I’m not familiar with what’s available here. Wanted to chime in and voice my support for custom tailored clothing anyway. You’ll never go back to buying stuff in department stores again. Don’t have to spend a fortune either.
Indochino
Get an off the rack that's close to your measurements and just have a tailor adjust it
You must travel to Japan for clothes once a year. You just can't find cooler shit anywhere else. The quality, price and variety is off the charts compared to anything anywhere. Hong Kong should be your next stop after that. You will be wasting money and time trying to get this done on the west coast + good tailors are suuuper expensive. Anything tailor made below $5k will be meh and you should be really spending $10k
Doing a made to measure suit (like Hart Schaffner Marx at Nordstrom) is a good starting point if off-the-rack doesn't fit well.
Try Oliver Wicks
I really like my two Indochino suits. I’ve never had a true bespoke suit made, and I’m sure they’re awesome. But IC was way better than off the rack Zegna etc
Hey guys I mentioned it above and I’ll mention it again. I have a friend with a custom suit startup that services Seattle, SF, NYC and other cities. He comes and measures you and it’s completely bespoke. Cheapest is around $600 and most average around $1k. I have a few from him and they are excellent. https://www.chookhare.com PM me if you want and I can see about any referral discounts.
Time to hit that bench press eh?
Eh, my problems are more about arm length, shoulder width, etc. My arm circumference is what prevents me from just wearing boy's clothes.
