Best Career Path in NYC?

I’m not really a fan of the Bay Area or Seattle, so I’m interested in what the best way to build my career in NYC is. People seem biased towards tech on Blind but with finance in NYC and chances to be at these companies HQ, that might offer better career options. Curious to see what people think. Think about maximizing TC and career growth.

Isn’t fb / goog / etc the best in that area? What else is there besides other job professions?

FB/G have NYC offices but there are tons of quantitative finance firms that are tech focused headquartered in NYC such as Jane Street, Two Sigma, HRT, Five Rings, Townsquare Trading, etc

Yup , there are 😊 but besides those I don’t think there’s anything else at least in the tech industry

I would say switch between regular tech and hedge fund tech every 3-5 years.

In your estimation does it matter whether this flip flopping begins in tech or hedge fund first?

It doesn’t matter what the first job is IMO, as long as you switch within 3-4 years or so.

It would be interesting to here about the difference in culture between the two. One of my friends at amzn came from Chicago fintech scene and it sounded on the complete other end of the political spectrum.
