I’m dabbling between getting a Audi/Merc mid range SUV or go for Tesla(model Y). I want to future proof the purchase so that if I want to sell, the resale value won’t go down anymore than the standard depreciation. Planning to have a kid in a year, so a mid range SUV would be nice. I’m not married to a certain brand atm, so open to wide range of suggestions. Great driving experience, semi luxury and reliable/ easy to maintain are somethings I value. Appreciate any suggestions.
Tesla Y
I wish I could design Tesla’s cars
Tesla Y. Any other vehicle purchase is just a bad financial decision imo.
Why Tesla’s are a good financial decision? Honest question. Is it because of less maintenance or is it because EV’s will have less depreciation in the future?
Both, and the fact that driving it costs less because of no gas, and also a lot of places charge it free too, like some workplaces. Not to mention it’s easier to drive, especially on the freeway, with the assisted features like staying in your lane. Other cars assisted features are much worse.
If you value fun then Merc (gle?) else Tesla for tech and upkeep
But if you don’t care at all about how good of a financial decision it is, the Porsche Macan looks pretty nice. You have to pay extra for every stupid thing when building it though, so it quickly becomes $10k more for some basic features that come standard on other cars.
We seriously considered the Macan and it’s really nice but trunk space sucked. It’s amazing how much crap you end up hauling when you have a baby. Just something to think about
Lmao Macans are for rich suburban soccer moms. If you’re gonna blow money on a Porsche and not EV, you might as well get 911, cayman, boxster
Porsche 911 996.2 turbo. Can be picked up for $50-60k low mileage. Just make sure the intermediate shaft bearing has been replaced. You now have a reliable super car that cost $150k+.
“The Porsche 996 is the internal designation for the 911 model manufactured from 1997 to 2006” This car is not going to be nearly as reliable as a new car. Not to mention that it’s slower than a Tesla performance anyways.
Umm having driven a Tesla and multiple models of 911 (turbo and non turbo) even the non turbo models are way more exciting. You don’t buy a Porsche for raw power. You buy it to throw around a mountain road. And they are stupid reliable. Maintenance under $2k a year on average. Literally, their only flaw is the intermediate shaft bearing which can grenade your engine if it does not receive proper lubrications, cheap to replace with an aftermarket one and can even add a sensor now that warns you about lubrication issues. It’s a simpler design for a German vehicle, making it pretty damn reliable. Sure your Tesla can bust everything up to a hayabusa in a straight line, but when it comes time to bang out an apex you will not come close to the experience of a 911. Straight lines are for losers who can’t/don’t want to learn how to drive well.
Volvo XC90

Get a reliable used car for less than 20k, and invest the rest. Car is a luxury. Get a reliable car and has it work for you, don’t chase after fancy cars that need a lot of maintenance. If you do, you’re a slave for it.
And do what with all the money that’s been saved or earned? Being financially independent is good, but not to a point where you’re just slaving away your entire life trying to increase you NW to which no one gives a damn.
This person knows what they are doing. I point and laugh at people who bought new cars in 2015 instead of making multiples on their money in the market. Now they have a depreciated asset that feels old and out of date.
Ford Bronco, cheap and solid
Buy a Lexus RX
Car looks ugly af imo
Beauty lies in the eye of beholder. It’s sexy af for me. If you need reliability and cheap maintenance, Lexus it is.
