What are the best companies in tech with major offices in EU+UK? The ones I know are: Google Zurich Facebook London Coinbase London Twilio Madrid Spotify Stockholm Amazon Luxembourg Any more to add to this list? #engineering #software #swe
Google Zurich for sure.
London is a nice place to live, well parts of it anyway. A decent local economy too (read: the entire U.K. economy) But the U.K. is going through some self discovery issues at the moment, not sure it’s worth moving there as a destination right now, but if you get a great offer you’ll probably be fine.
Also consider how much income tax you pay. I am currently working in U.K. and the tax rate is 30%~40% for high income earners which really does not leave much disposable cash to enjoy life. Switzerland is much better overall in terms of high developer salary and lower tax.
California and NY have 40% tax as well. Even just Federal tax is 32% for 160k+ and 35% for 200k+.

"hedge funds London" is a pretty big fucking category. Also it should be "quant funds/prop shops" - some random discretionary macro HF or l/s equity fund isn't going to be hiring many SWEs any time soon.

Yeah they pay quite well, all cash too.
Zurich anyday if you get offer there. Amazon London is doing good work too.
what are the other companies in Zurich apart from Google?
Apple and microsoft? Number of tech companies are not much there. London seems to have good number of tech companies.

good work going on there
