Outside of NYC and SF, what cities have the best mix of finance career opps and good lifestyle? NYC is obviously the epicenter, but not sure I’m a NYC lifer
Charlotte, NC
London, Hong Kong, Tokyo & Dubai
US based - Los Angeles is decent. Chicago and Boston also good but freezing. Outside of US, London, but lifestyle is not amazing. Melbourne has some cool gigs and a start up culture as well. Singapore and HK are great but tough with everything going on in Asia. Colorado actually has some buyside gigs now. If you’re taking about banking, places like Minneapolis are also good.
LA, Boston, Chicago
Once outside of a major finance city, each city can have its own focus or niche. Los Angeles is going to have quite different opportunities from Charlotte, SF, Atlanta etc. Particularly if you’re thinking of finance from a corporate perspective rather than investment banking. European cities seem like they would be pretty fun to spend some time in at some point in a career.
SF
I've heard that Frankfurt is the epicenter of the german finance world and generally has better lifestyle than in America. London is the equivalent for the UK. BoA, Wells fargo, and other banks are headquartered in Charlotte, so that's an option. Generally, the south has better work life balance as well! I would say to stray away from any major financial hubs in asia if you're prioritizing work lifestyle balance, as they are known for grueling hours and terrible hierarchy. So to clarify,.. you're looking for the best 'finance' city that is not Sf or NY right? :O
Los Angeles
I would say Los Angeles
