Non profit should be a 501(c)3 that can hire legal non-citizens (H1B, F1, OPT, etc.) My Background: Product management, AI, Design, VR, and Business
What about the NRA?
Usps. Unless you mean "not for profit" .
US government
Trickiest thing is visas. With most non profits, it will be harder to get a company sponsored visa, on top of that they have a higher risk aversion as dumping resources into a candidate that may not be able to work a year out is not a great use of funds.
Non profits have a different kind of H1 which doesn’t have lottery and can be applied for anytime of the year. (Of course, with this visa, one can’t transfer to a for profit, for which one needs to go through the lottery process) Let me know if you have different latest information about this
H1 visa cap exemptions are specifically around higher ed, non-profit research orgs, and govt. research. Outside of these very specific non profit sectors, and as a hiring manager at a non profit in product, I can tell you it’s harder to get visa sponsorship, and it is a factor (more due to lack of more guaranteed resourcing) when weighing different candidates because budgets are a lot tighter.
