SDEs. In your opinion, which company provides the best interview experience for Software Engineers? What made it great? How could the experience be even better? looking for personal experiences. thanks! #sde #interviews #softwareengineer
The thing that bugs me most in interviews are young, inexperienced interviewers. You may be old and inexperienced, too, don't get me wrong. But for someone to gain enough relevant experience, it takes time. That's why someone with less than 5-7 years of experience isn't the ideal type of interviewer. They have not had enough time to experience different situations and will have trouble recognizing nuances. Especially bad when young, inexperienced top performers are picked to do interviews. They might have a great career, with lots of growth. But they have not struggled enough, nor failed enough. In sum, great career doesn't mean great interview skills. That's why, for example, the best sports coaches aren't top athletes themselves. Or best teachers aren't best students. Or best conductors aren't best musicians. Or best ICs are best managers. And so on.
This. I hate new grad interviewers. You are 1 year out of college, how can you gauge my performance when Iâm interviewing for a senior role?
Spot on! Adding to it ... Best directors arenât best actors Best friends arenât best people... sometimes they arenât even people... most of the times, they are dogs. (I do love my dog very much - I have no idea how every topic leads me back to my puppers đś )
Palantir london - 5 star hotel, arranged a driver at the airport, refunded every meal (which most companies do anyway). London is a shithole, but thatâs not palantirâs fault. Got rejected though.
Interviews all suck because humans naturally have selection bias. Overall there isn't any one company with a perfect recruiting process but I'd say Stripe's was the most transparent and least shitty. They're probably the only ones who actually care about having a rigorous but fair pipeline.
I had a pleasant experience with Indeed. 5-star hotel, arranged a driver to pick up, dropoff. Moreover, everybody was friendly. But got rejected in the end. I felt their onsite questions were weird, different from typical leetcode.
Twist - the driver was also an interviewer in disguise trying to see how nicely you treat others when not in an interview situation. You did not tip him! Bad move !
Only interview I ever did was with amazon. And I did get an offer. Interview process was ok, recruiter was amateur and had trouble understanding even the simplest arguments/questions. Had to give up trying to explain and clarify things multiple times during the process
