Currently living in Dallas and while I love it here, my girl and I are looking for a change of pace. I’m 25, She’s 24. She’ll be graduating soon with a double BS in Electrical/Computer engineering and she’s looking to work in hardware, I’ll be looking for design jobs. I don’t think either of us would reeeaaally mind living in CA but it seems like the tech scene is the only really compelling reason to go. Some other cities we’ve been considering are Denver, Seattle, Portland, and Austin, all of which have their ups and downs. I’d personally really enjoy NYC but I don’t think she would. Any recommendations?
Anything is better than Dallas, you have nothing to worry
I think it’s an underrated city, but definitely better options out there.
Consider any other city only if you are willing to give up that 20 BED 30BATH mansion that costs $50per month.
Have you considered Boston?
Chicago
Seattle is fantastic. Other options for tech are Atlanta, Raleigh Durham in NC, and Boston. Out of those 3, RD is very nice and housing is immensely affordable. Boston is great, and Atlanta is ok. Haven’t been to Portland, but I’ve heard great things. Setup interviews at companies in the areas that interest y’all, and go check them out on the company’s dime.
Boston housing sucks ass though. Don’t move if you want to buy a house relatively soon.
How about the Seattle Freeze and ranking top for depression?
If you think Dallas is good then you prolly won’t mind Charlotte, Atlanta, Columbus or DC area
The type of life you’d have in NYC are so different than the other cities. Denver / Portland / Seattle are essentially the same city and much different than NYC. You should bother figure out what type of experience you’re looking for.
If there are chances you will break up then pick NYC... you’ll have a good life 🍻
vote for Chicago. The house price is still lower than most large cities in US
Well I mean yeah but we can have goals tho
Yeah! I mean it’s a great place to visit but it just really isn’t our scene, just doesn’t really feel right, you know? Plus housing is a concern.
