I'm looking to land a job at Genentech in SF -- wondering what the best opportunities for a recent grad in chemistry would be. I've worked at a chemistry lab and I'm continuing that work, but I'm wondering if there are any positions that would be best suited for a new grad with limited experience.
It’s not a good company for fresh grad. It’s more for people seeking retirement settlement.
Congrats on your graduation! I agree with @i@mls that at this point an internship would be a great choice. What kind of job are you looking to get? Most scientist positions require PhD+productive Post-doc (high impact publications). https://www.gene.com/careers/work-here/faq
What do brand Pharma companies look for in a candidate? I’m someone with generic Pharma experience. I’d like to transition but I’m not sure how shape my experience. Any suggestions?
Meaningful evidence of productivity, including publications. Examples of innovation and/or leadership
Thanks!
Don't take temp position through an agency. My niece UCB Berkeley graduate got trapped with temp. They very seldom turned those positions to perm. Finally she got a great Job at Bayer.
I disagree - if you’re already qualified, having a temp position where you display excellent performance is a great way to land an FTE position at GNE. I’ve converted 3 contractors to FTEs in the last two years.
Agree that if you want a position at Genentech, you need a postdoc with high impact publications. There is a postdoc program at Genentech, but going from postdoc to FTE internally is not easier than an outside hire. In contrast, I think going from temp to FTE is possible if you excel at what you do.
I started as a temp then FT in Genentech
Getting a job at Genentech straight out of college is difficult but certainly possible. Look at internship programs where you might make an impact. This can help you land a full-time role.
