I would stay away from self driving for now. They’ve oversold the idea and markets have false confidence that results are just around the corner, while there are tons of unsolved complex problems that would take years to get trough. Expecting lots of these companies to run out of funding and go to the ground at some point. Two that feel safer are Waymo (because of unlimited runway) and Tesla (because they don’t need L5 now to survive).

Argo

I'd say that Waymo has the best chance to succeed. It is backed by a cash machine and have the best researchers in the field. Cruise is well positioned too and has many talented people., But I fear that its internal culture takes it two steps back for every forward step it makes.

Can you explain the Cruise culture a little bit more? I hear you have really good people there.

Zoox

I have no idea why everyone always says zoox... they are in a terrible position- they need to solve autonomy and then go build a car and needed to raise an emergency round of debt to do so (this isn’t the last funding round either). Yes, they have pretty visualizations, but that’s not what makes self driving cars work.

Zoox skaba Nov 23, 2019

It is quite literally what makes the car work as it’s the perception system
