Bit of background - I'm a somewhat recent grad (1.5 years post graduation) with substantial student loan debt and credit card debt (my spouse and I each spent 6+ months unemployed in the last year). My spouse is still currently unemployed and waiting for their grad program to start (they stay home with the kids to save money on daycare right now). I currently make decent money in my full-time job, but I'm wanting to pay off my debt as fast as possible and am looking for a part-time gig to earn extra cash. I work in tech, but don't code (work in the ux space - largely research). Any suggestions on side gigs that are actually worth pursuing? I'm not opposed to learning a new skill for my side gig, but prefer something that won't take more than a few months to learn. I've considered trying to teach at local community colleges in the evening/weekends - anyone try that? I've considered doing consultant work, but most companies that employ UXers in my area are direct competitors to IBM and so I'm hesitant to do that. Other than that I'm drawing a bit of a blank. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Consulting work will pay the most. Plenty of companies don't compete with IBM. Your most marketable skill is your day job, or you would be doing something else.
explain more in detail please.
Consulting or run a porn site.
Tutoring rich kids in standardized tests or Math or something 50-150/hr
Lyft/Uber driver?
You can always teach part-time at the local College. I do that and it's not a bad source of a little extra cash. I have taught for a few years now.
I'm scouring through craigslist gigs—I don't have loans/debt to worry about. I'm hoping the extra experience will help me make more cash long term.
