Without even going into the motivation of why you would want to do such a thing: I’ve rarely seen poor performers receive severance. I know it’s the wet dream of so many people here on blind, but nope, not really a thing. Usually it’s a long drawn out painful documentation filled ordeal that is no fun for anyone involved. And if one party (the employee) is non cooperative it becomes a heck of a lot easier to get fired (no, not with severance). But hey, good luck, let us know if it works out.

Happens daily at Amazon. That’s what the entire program was built for.

Seen it happen within 3 months of someone getting a bad review and a re-org. They got a good severance and a new job fairly quickly. It’s a lot faster to get laid off at Microsoft now.

Severance is a way companies can dismiss employees without cause and avoid frivolous lawsuits. A few thousand dollars is cheaper than dealing with angry employees looking for money. But if you are let go for documented poor performance or other bad behavior, then you can kiss severance goodbye. They can easily show they let you go not because you are black, gay, or handicapped, but because you missed all your work deadlines.

What if there are no deadlines? Just that someone "feels" that you are not performing well. At will employment means you can get fired for literally anything.

If your team hasn't PIP anyone yet in a year then just ask for it. Give bad Connection feedback first and hint that you're the trouble maker

Amazon batou Jul 26, 2019

pro tip👍 how many times you asked to be piped?

Sounds like you are ready to burn the bridges at AMZN. Why paint yourself in a bad picture, just for a few thousand $?!!! It is a small world, you will come across the same set of people, in your career, that you (think) are out-smarting. Just be honest, and move on, if your intention is to move on, and take on another adventure in life. It is funny that a person from AMZN is even thinking about something like this. Did you really pass the LP round in your interview there? If you did, then the whole LP crap that candidates go through during interview is all a hogwash?!!!

Uber itsdara Jul 26, 2019

Will you do it to save someone else in the team from PIP? Especially if you can get $20k+ from it? If you've been there for 3y+ it could be $50k+

I watched baseball, in order to win it appears you need to be able to: 1) catch the ball 2) hit the ball with the bat 3) run fast So all you have to do is remember 3 things and win any baseball game. Leadership principles rock

Microsoft hryofe Jul 26, 2019

Well yeah if you rob a bank it could be $50m+ /s What a shitty justification, it’s not adding anything new to the op.

Uber itsdara Jul 26, 2019

If you don't get PIP someone else in the team will
