Worried that our top performer is an attrition risk. How do managers handle this?
How does everyone else do it? Do you just go to company website and apply? Reach out to hiring managers on LinkedIn? Or are there some generic recruiters who can help you find good companies that you may not be aware of. I am looking for engineering manager roles but the process may be similar for SDE.
If you have a big name on your resume, you can probably just apply online. Think I've heard back from every company I've applied to. Otherwise, yeah find a recruiter for that company on LinkedIn and message them
I have only applied online and I get maybe a 10% response rate. I’m actively working on growing/improving my professional network (year 7 but OK)
Also the services where companies essentially bid on you are solid and make sense for a seller's market. Triplebyte, A-List, Hired, etc. Not sure if they support managers though
I recently went through this - referral through friends and directly applying on company websites. I was shocked that every company responded.. even if to say 'we don't think you're a good fit for this team' - always thought that was the oddest as we didn't even get heavy into details.
Good to know. I dont want to rely too much on friends at this point but will try applying to companies
Love this question. Applying isn’t enough. You have to do some digging to get your resume in front of some eyes. Find the recruiter. Find SOME recruiter and schedule a call with them. Also don’t even reach out to a recruiter when there’s no roles open. Reach out with a role and job id ready to present to them. Also figure out the companies you actually WANT work for. The company might have the role you want but if the culture is shit don’t waste your time.
That's generally what I was thinking of doing but I suspect there may be too many interesting opportunities I may be missing out. Especially smaller companies with interesting growth opportunities. So just wondering if there was a better way to widen the search net
Book the call with the recruiter and ask about what other teams are hiring. Just ask, it’s not that hard. People are so lazy. Call into the company. Ask to be connected with someone in HR. Ask the receptionist lol. Have balls and be creative.
