What are some strategies those of us working at consulting firms prevent burnout?
Take real weekends whenever you can. Let yourself not check email for a few hours to start if you know you’re not expecting anything urgent. Full days unplugged if you can. It’s important to hit refresh.
The way I see it is two fold: 1) You need a day-to-day that is enjoyable or at the very least tolerable. This means having good relationships with your coworkers, being well organized so you are not constantly behind or overwhelmed, and what I think is very underrated, being in good health (do you eat clean and go to the gym often enough or are you in a death spiral of bad habits making you lethargic)? 2) secondly, you need something to look forward to, that is, longer term goals and a plan to get there. Getting from analyst to Assistant Manager to Manager is one part of that and is SMART (measurable, time bound etc) but more importantly you can set goals to learn and grow professionally as well as personally (hobbies worked on even for a small amount of time, consistently, will turn into mastery eventually). One other thing to beware is the “grass is always greener” mentality. It can feel a lot of times that your firm may be the problem, but it could be the team, a client, or just your individual issues and approach to stress management. Try and diagnose and triage the problem before jumping to any rash conclusions.
Do a line of cocaine in the bathroom as needed
Lol are you in my building I keep seeing white powder in the bathrooms
Leave the consulting firm.
Adderall, caffeine, and zoloft
alt travel has kept me sane in crazy times so far
You find a client and go work there.
Seen a few folks do this lately. Seems like a sweet move
I am still looking for this white whale in order to make a move and finally achieve that sweet, sweet work life balance everyone keeps talking about.
@Op: stay busy, very busy.
Leave consulting as soon as you can. Recently I removed my consulting experience from my resume and that made my resume so much better 🙌
Have a goal in mind and work towards it, as opposed to just doing things mindlessly and floating in the winds of managers and business needs. in other words, plan your exit strategy and work to get there.
