Uber offer but not happy with the team

Apr 14 13 Comments

I completed my on-site interview loop last week and the recruiter reached out yesterday saying the feedback was positive.

However, after learning more about the team, I’m not very excited about the work/stack.

Can I request that I matched with a different team without a full loop? Or will this hurt my current potential offer?

I have other offers, so I don’t have the bandwidth or the mental energy to go through another loop with a different team.

Current TC: 340
YOE: 5

I’d recommend you ask for a switch right now. Given current demand for engineers, they are more likely than not to agree, since another team will benefit.

You’ll obviously have to talk to the hiring manager of that other team, and they might not like you. That’s always a possibility.

Makes sense, thank you. How easy is it to switch teams in Uber? Do teams typically do a full/mini loop? Or is it more like a conversation to gauge mutual fit?

Extremely easy to switch teams, even roles. For the same role for example, software engineer, there’s usually no need to go through the loop either.

Are you happy with your other offers? If you can risk losing it definitely ask

That’s my question: is there a risk of loosing the current offer if I ask for a different team?

As someone with no insight into the process, it makes no sense that asking would jeopardize the offer. Wouldn’t they just say no?

iirc Uber you interview with the product area so there is definitely risk, but switching teams is fairly easy at Uber, you can even do the switch within 3 months(two of my friends did this already)

Uber encourages mobility but I don’t think it’s in 3 months for a new hire .
