There are no lack of media reports about that. And I notice less blacks in faang

So can we say racism prevail in tech industry.
What’s the reason behind that?

Update: I singled out blacks, because Chineses and Indians perform so well in tech companies, especially Indians, some can even reach to CEO.

I’m not seeing many Asians in the NBA. Can we say racism is prevalent in the Sports industry?

    • I’ve also wondered the same thing too. If under representation of black folks in tech is the problem, then why shouldn’t under representation of Asian folks in sports and marketing industry an issue? I used to work in marketing industry in New York and my colleagues were mostly black and white. I was one of the handful Asians in my company. I think some industries just tend to attract certain people due to the environment that I grew up. You just can’t have everything 🤷‍♂️

    • @Ktvtd57 the programs is mainly to increase marketing and revenue for advertising NBA in China. Asian players still face discrimination in sports and people don’t talk about it.

This. If their proportion is less than 15%, it does indicate that "something" is going on that is preventing black people from entering the faang work force.

Maybe less black people choose CS major? You can't blame them for not choosing a major.

I think their issue is non traditional educational backgrounds. Many go to community college and companies don’t actively recruit there. I taught there and I had bright black students getting jobs as movers, construction, etc. They needed a job fast and didn’t have the financial backing to get through the weeks/months of interviews

You hit the nail on the head.

Most "under-represented minority" cases can very easily be explained by who's actually applying.

5.6% of Americans are Asian. Does this mean exactly 5.6% of NBA players should be Asian?

13.4% of Americans are Black. Does this mean the number of Black software engineers in tech companies should be exactly 13.4%?
