Blizzard OW Devs. Why did it take 3.5 years for the released game to be release ready (quality)?

Tagged other game companies to give insight if this is an industry thing.

Screw Blizzard, they destroyed Lich king 😭

Activision Blizzard FkdCompany Nov 6, 2019

Why all the hate for Blizz, bro?

Wipro VendettaV Nov 6, 2019

Because you destroyed Lich King. Arthas is the best character in the history of gaming. The one everyone wanted to fight but no one wanted ro kill. Lich king is the face of Warcraft. Its it glory. Then this b**** comes and destroys helm of damnation like nothing......

Not sure what you’re asking. Released game be released ready? 🤨

EA Grindle Dec 9, 2019

They’re complaining that Overwatch wasn’t initially release ready quality, which is just flat out wrong. Of all the games that this could be said about, Overwatch is certainly not one of them.

Activision Blizzard newrandom Dec 9, 2019

Dude, wtf are you on about. OW was in great shape on launch day. Sure you're not confusing it with D3?

Wizards of the Coast qPGS27 Dec 9, 2019

Or hots

Activision Blizzard ALiO84 Dec 9, 2019

The plethora of awards OW won, the critical acclaim the game earned, and the fifty million plus players says to me that it released just fine...

First of all.. I'd love to see the concurrent player report since release. More importantly...Ignoring the fact that blizzard messed up on Overwatch and pulled too many resources after release is a mistake. The gaming industry is growing and industry leaders have a huge opportunity to lock these new comers in. Unfortunately, the new quality standard for release across the industry is abysmal you then sell hope on dlc. That hope gets dragged out. The value of hype on release is getting taken advantage of and consumers willing to buy on release is going down fast. This trend is especially high in the hardcore gaming community and is masked by the new comers. Soon the new comers will think that games generally suck because they don't stick around long after release. Then they will slowly stop spending money on this type of entertainment instead of getting locked in. If this shit on release from AAA continues it only hurts the bottom line in the long run. These quarterly number chases are screwing the industry. I look forward to future content PvE and animations. But for a hardcore fps player like me, your slowness on polish lost me. I had high hopes for overwatch. You didn't even meet the bare minimum until 2 years in. By then it was too late The community is toxic period. Most people stop an OW session more stressed and frustrated than when they started. You messed up.

Activision Blizzard ALiO84 Dec 9, 2019

Ouch. Did your favorite hero get nerfed? 😂

Twitch asdfack Dec 9, 2019

Lol wut

Multiple trends pump those 50 mil numbers up. Smurf accounts for one. Another is the massive move from console to PC over the last few years. Those people have to buy the game twice. Also, parents buying the cartoon game for their kids. I'd love to see the concurrent players report..

What the hell are you talking about? Your original post talked about how the game took 3.5 years to release a “release-ready” game. That implies there were many bugs, etc. I don’t remember the game being buggy when I first played. I quit because of the toxic community but the game felt extremely polished and intuitive for me to play. Now you’re spouting numbers and justifications why there might be so many ppl playing, as if that is an argument I’m going to make to justify lol no OW was release ready look at all the players. Do you even play games? All you really need to do is go through the patch notes and show how many “game-breaking” bugs there were to prove your claim. Idk if you even know what game breaking even means tho

Riot Games Fwwuigaz Dec 10, 2019

I actually can't think of a single game that blizzard has ever made that wasn't ready from a Quality standpoint when it was released. There were certainly some design missteps, etc (e.g. D3) but the polish was there.

Riot Games Fwwuigaz Dec 10, 2019

What about OW didn't seem polished to you at release?

Riot Games Fwwuigaz Dec 10, 2019

Also you seem to be mad that the experience of playing OW isn't fun now - which is a different thing than polish, due to player Dynamics issues, etc., But I don't understand what that has to do with the game 3 years ago. To pick another game for example that seriously lacks polish (but is still fun in spite of it) see, for example, PUBG
