I just got an offer from Bloomberg for a senior software engineer role. How does it stack up to their other offers? Is it realistic to negotiate much higher? Base Salary 193k Bonus 38k (~20% of base, paid out after 1 year) No sign-on bonus - was told they don't do sign-ons?? NYC with 5YOE (full-stack) #bloomberg #bloombergoffer #bloombergsalary
They are bluffing about sign ons. If you have a competing offer they definitely will. I know someone who got 30k sign on when new grads were getting hired for 140k TC.
Damn, that recruiter straight up lied to me then! How much higher do you think I can negotiate (reasonably)?
No idea other than the data point I already provided, sorry.
They are lying about the sign on. They 100% give them.
Why do recruiters lie a lot about sign on tho
My friend got a 50k sign on he had Amazon and MS offer.5 YOE
Gonna go back and ask for it
It will be hard to get them to budge OP. You don't have a competing offer and they offer almost anyone from a bank this package. They know how bad banks are both in culture and pay. Good luck, let us know if you do succeed.
Tbh, I'm happily employed and working on impactful projects, due for a promo and year end bonus... I don't *need* Bbg's job, but I want it for the right amount. I'll post updates later.
Up to you. I was a superstar at GS, nice raises and big bonuses (still less than Bbg). One year I unexpectedly got a terrible bonus, new boss, new politics etc and I left. Best decision ever, more money, working about 20 hours a week, free healthcare with zero out of pocket and free food(depends on office). No more having at least person on our team get fired each year.
They can definitely give you a sign on. 20k is easily doable. They have a clawback for 2 years though
2 years? That's a long time for a sign on bonus
Yeah, and they’ll most likely be enforce it.
Hey OP, can you please share your interview experience? For full stack role, was JavaScript given more importance or LC questions only? Also, if you can share your experience with the system design round, in regards to where was given more importance?
Generally BBG is language agnostic when it comes to interviews. I interviewed with a few teams and one was set on me using JS even though I mentioned I haven't used it in a while. The other teams were fine with me using my preferred language. From my experience, focus on LC Bloomberg-tagged questions. It's mostly easy/medium, but I've heard people get tougher qs as well. System design is pretty much non-existent. My interviewers mostly focused on my previous experience. I talked about the projects I worked on, they'd ask about certain system design choices we made. I definitely overprepared for the SD round. First 2 rounds will be coding qs. If you make past that, next round will be manager round with some system design. After that either HR or they'll schedule one more call with the department head, who'll try to sell you on the job. By that time you've probably made it and will get an offer. If you're out after the first 2 rounds, they're probably moving on.
Thanks a lot hedgehog, I really appreciate it. Did you end up taking an offer from them?

Why people waste their time behind Israel Palestine issues?
Yes, you can negotiate higher (but not much higher - they are hesitant against bringing in ppl at too high. Although their bonuses can get better) With your YOE and location, you can do better in terms of TC with a company that is more tech focused.
Good to know. Thanks. Wdym not much higher? Is 210k base realistic in your opinion? Also, is that normal for them not to offer a sign-on bonus?
The really good people at the company with 5 YOE can hit 300k TC
