Bloomberg Video Interview

Hey guys, had a video call with Bloomberg as a mobile engineer to London office. The first part of the interview was very good, nothing special a few questions on Hackerrank. But the following guys asked me to design BE-side and mobile application at the same time. Is it a common practice to ask mobile dev to design BE even when I mentioned that don’t have experience with that? I have some knowledge, but my performance was low and I think I failed that part.

Video Interview at Bloomberg? Never heard of it.

This can happen at Bloomberg. Our wildly inconsistent technical interview process is tailored to each role, and doesn't always match the candidate's stated skills and preferences, especially if the initial recruiter puts you in the wrong funnel or you don't tell them your preferences. I think I was lucky. Did you claim BE knowledge on your resume? If so, that may be why.

No, my resume doesn’t contain a word about BE. At the beginning of the interview, I mentioned, that I’d like to try to work with BE but emphasized that I didn’t have any practical experience with it.

Ok. You might get through in that case. Hopefully the recruiter didn't fuck you over by submitting you to the wrong role. Definitely ask why you were asked that in the interview, and reiterate that you have no experience in it but are interested in it.
