I recently got an offer from another tech company and received a sign-on bonus. The offer letter says that if my employment gets terminated before the 1 year mark, then I have to return the full sign on bonus. Is this industry standard? I haven't seen this on my previous offer letters. Sign-ons were always pro-rated if I didn't make the first year. Can I push back to get this revised?

Edit: I have not yet signed the offer letter. We're in the period of me reviewing the contract terms. Thinking I will shoot my shot to ask for pro-rated!

Yep standard!!! Welcome to โ€œreading your contract and signingโ€ stage of your life ๐Ÿ˜Š

FYI yes you can ask them to make it pro-rated IF you are willing to have your signon given to you pro-rated as well that is monthly.

    pretty standard across industry.

Else people will join new companies each month, take 20k+ sign on. That alone would make your tc 240k+ lol ๐Ÿ˜‚

Not just sign on, my contract even said that I will have to return all the relocation as well as immigration cost if applicable, if I leave the company in less than 1 year.
