I'll go first.

At my first job right after school, I was too over confident, kind of egomaniac and coded like a monkey. I would finish 1 feature in a week. Did not think about big picture or side cases at all. I thought if I worked 100+ hours a week I would get praised and a raise. Treated senior’s like shit ( really sorry), ignored all feedback. Code was in C/C++. Manager was ok with it as he looked good in front of higher ups and thought he found a Unicorn Programmer. No one opposed, people were too busy or did’t care 🤷‍♂️

1 year down the line, bugs started popping up, on call after on call, edge cases blew up 😬my performance suffered😥. My manager moved me to a different team citing my performance and he jumped ship. Was too young to realize what was going on.

Legend is they had to hire 7 new people, 3 Senior programmers to fix the mess. Team lead quit, and anyone new was like : what the fuck this guy did 😂 what was he thinking ! Took them more than a year to bring all back to normal, everything I had done line by line was scrutinized and rewritten. Had to quit, I was famous in entire Org.

Other than that, luckily everywhere I’ve worked has had super good CICD, have written way less code and have been good (touchwood).

😔☹️ Yes, but the worst part is out of that 50% goes to Taxes. Amazon pays here 140k-200k but you wont see more than 70-80k in your hand.

I see equal fault with your peers and manager who approved the PRs. Writing bad code happens a lot, that’s where the peer review comes in, they need to enforce standards (unless your team was under so much pressure to check that in ASAP).

Exactly this. Actually I would put the entire blame on the tech leads who approved the code because they clearly have more experience and can see the bigger picture and should of have given you good feedback on your PRs. Not your fault when you just finished school and jumped into industry.

Honestly sounds more like the fault of your eng team's sketchy approval and launch process and poor leadership than you screwing up.

My biggest mistake was thinking HR was there to protect employees and filing a complaint against a VP. HR made sure to document zero wrongdoing and VP became an even bigger asshole out for revenge. Yes, at Google. Yes, I took the L and switched teams before my perf suffered.
