I just received an SRE offer from booking.com for 88k eur + stock @ 11years experience. Is it competitive ? Also, if anyone knows how is the career growth with them?
What does stock part look like? What is your current location?
Jakarta
88k Euro? You may want to move to US and get paid 4x more
right, MS peeps make 400k USD base
Maybe at senior directors or VP level
88k is good for a normal core role in tech. How is your sign on and relocation bonus?
no sign-on, 8k relocation
Then they are lowballing you. Negotiate it. Some people negotiate bonus up to 20k.
Go for FAANG unless you need Amsterdam. Booking is where careers come to die
Totally agree
This. I wish I knew
88k seems a bit low for an SRE. Like the people mentioned above, you should think twice unless you're specifically interested in Amsterdam. The main risk for an SRE: you don't really have a say in which team you're going to end up in. You might be working on something interesting or you might be stuck with Perl, getting experience with the dead language and investing your time in developing the skills that you'll never need outside of Booking.
Don’t accept it. Run as far as possible. Go anywhere but booking. Your mental health will deteriorate. There is no growth. Top management is a mess. They are called people’s person but they do nothing. They have zero skills. Its looks good from outside. Inside its hell.
Aside from "run away" comments, 88k is not too high even for Booking. Especially for an SRE.
I think 88 is exactly the base for senior & SRE, so it’s not off range.
SREs get paid like seniors? Wow fuck them
Comp looks decent for AMS. You get 20% bonus on top of it. Unless, you are desperate to move to Europe think twice before joining booking.com there are not many alternatives here!
And currently the culture is quite toxic because of leadership mismanagement
Another booking.com employee here and I would suggest you to not join booking unless you want to move to the Netherlands. Management is shitty, so much politics, work is shitty (mostly), so many people are burning out, I get to hear on an average one burn out story per week at booking, they don't follow good development practices and if you would do that then you will be shut up by the management. The only reason for moving here would be Amsterdam.
try to get an offer from uber amsterdam
