Looking for info on a senior cybersecurity consultant @ BAH on the commercial side. How much travel? How do you get placed on new projects? Overall reviews, advice, and experience. I would be based out of NYC
Consulting for commercial sector is general extremely fast-paced with quick turnarounds. With that said, I’ve done one engagement on the commercial side of the house (I work federal 99% of the time) and it was pretty hectic. However, commercial side has a lot more forward-thinking architecture in comparison to the feds. New projects can come to you if you participate in what’s called “Accelerator”, which is an in-house placing system that essentially brings up available projects that suit your credentials. Travel can vary, depends on the projects you get on. I’m based out of DC, so all of my clients are typically in the DC area.
I don't know 100% about commercial accounts, but generally travel varies from position to position. As for project placement, there's a number of avenues; most will involve working with your career manager, who can help guide you and help you throughout your career. Can't give much in the way of advice or experience, as I work out of a very, very small branch/office, and as such I do not believe my experience or advice would have any bearing on your situation. Best of luck.
