I'll relocate to Boston from Tokyo. Any recommendation for the neighborhood (safe and close to train station)?
My office will be around Backbay. How much should I prepare for the monthly rent (room for a single)?

Thanks

$2200-$3000 depending on size (studio or 1bdr) and distance to the T, unless you're going to find a roommate.

You can save money by staying west of Boston, but you will need a car (even if you take commuter rail to work). If you stay near a T station, you will pay more, but you don’t need a car to survive.

If you plan to stay west of the city, try apartments around west natick train station. There is also a new development near Ashland train station as well. Parking at the station is around $4-5 a day, so ideally you want to walk to the train station.

Avoid Mission Hill, Roxbury, etc. Fenway, Kenmore are pretty safe. But rents can be sky high. I remember me and my friend paying $2195 for a 1B1B

Those are student areas, very expensive housing and lots of noise / parties on the weekends in those two neighborhoods.
