If you follow Google on LinkedIn, have you noticed their account commenting on tons of Google new hire posts recently?
While I’m not sure if this is the case or not, it’s giving an impression that Google is going on an insane hiring spree and kind of ruining the prestigious image they had, at least to me.

Working at such a company means you can be interpreted as you may be smart but there are many other companies with smart-er people as well.
So if someone is shallow to derive their self worth through the company they work at or the title they have... so be it
Prestige is simply a way trying to impress people you don't care about anyhow. Such a person would feel miserable if Google or any such company would do poorly. So better not to outsource your own self worth to an external entity.
You may want to reread what I wrote earlier. I said exactly the same thing. Just a cautionary measure not to derive your self worth from extrinsically as it is a slippery slope.
Its also an echo chamber so it feels like a lot of people but when you add it up, its still a lot less compared to how many people apply
