Hey everyone, first time posting but in need of advice.

I was recently offered a position at Microsoft as a new grad (bachelor’s). The initial offer was a pretty low one at L59 level. I negotiated for a higher TC, and I had it bumped up significantly. I then pushed a little harder, and was upleveled to L61. The TC increased very little (15k base, 10k stock). I first accepted it, but then after considering it felt very anxious about the expectations for me as SWE 2 (which starts at L61) as opposed to SWE 1. I am honestly unsure if I can even meet the expectations for L60 vs L59, but the TC difference is too great to go back down to. I called the recruiter again and asked that they take down my level back to L60. I am wondering if I made the right decision. I do not have work experience and am not confident in my abilities, but am not sure if the expectations are truly great enough that I really should have rejected it. If I want to have the offer reverted, I would probably need to contact my recruiter ASAP. Please let me know what you guys think! Thank you all. #tech #microsoft #faang #swe

  • Depending on a team, the expectations from L61 are not far off of L61.
L62 is where things are slightly changing and L63 is where things are changing a lot.
But whatever you’re feel comfortable with.

How different would you say expectations for L61 are from expectations for L59? Because that’s what I feel most comfortable with tbh…

    • One of my managers used to say the expectations of L59 is to be able to find the restroom in the building.
The expectation from L60/61 is to be able to find the coffee machine.
      Again, depends on the team.
