Edit: adding poll question. What would happen if you and your coworkers decided to walk out in protest against a company policy or decision? Big kudos to all the employees of Google for standing up for whatโs right. Takes a lot of courage to do what you did and it takes a lot of humility for the company to own up to it. We could use a lot more humility and courage in many other industries, especially banking!!! This shouldnโt be limited to sexual-harassment. This should be addressed at all levels regardless of the type of harassment we experience. https://www.cnbc.com/2018/11/01/google-ceo-sundar-pichai-we-didnt-always-get-it-right.html

Enraged that kids prefer KPop to Bollywood. Installed cams in their rooms.
What a weak leader. Diversity at work.
sincere question: assuming Google (or any company) had handled Rubin episode flawlessly -- what exactly would that look like? ie what exactly does it mean for Google "to address this issue" -- please share playbook.
How do you โcoerceโ a girl to come up into your hotel and room and give you a blowjob? She was obviously a willing participant. If not, then in 2013 she would have filed a police report and cried rape at the time of the incident.
Not true and shows your ignorance to the reality of these situations and the typical behavior of victims. That's just not how most victims react at all.
Damn. It's sexual harassment, not a car accident that I will immediately get up and walk to the hospital to get treatment. As a teen I was sexually harassed. No, I was not coerced to walk up and give a bj to someone. I was harassed because I was pushed for it beyond what I was comfortable with. At that time I was emotionally disturbed and didn't know what to say, how to say, and whom to say to. I would fear how people would react (exactly like you did in your first statement) and it will only bring me guilt and shame. I would be blamed for being 'too close' to the guy and will be labelled as an outcast. The guy would obviously walk away with no consequences because that's exactly what has happened for centuries. It will expose our personal lives, I would be instructed not to go out and would be shamed. People would judge me with a 'two-for-tango' mentality. I kept quiet. I wish the society was more open about sexual harassment at that time. And we still have a long way to go (again, as can be seen from your comment). In this case, there are even more factors involve like job and workplace image.
uh does everyone agree / acknowledge that the reported coercion attempt in hotel room marked the end of consensual affair between the two (as reported nyt). previous oral good, final oral request bad (as reported to employer one year post). seems like a fine line bt gf and victim. lesson : you better fucking not ask for head if you are a man. one year later get call into hr for proper thrashing.
That's what gets me about this whole thing. They were in a consensual relationship and it ended. Google investigated and found that he did, in fact, have a relationship with someone who reported to him (hence the credibility of her claim). Coercion for a BJ seems like a stretch for sexual harrassment especially when the two participants we're in a known relationship at the time. I fully believe that marital/relationship rape happens, but that's not coercion. That's just normal rape. Convincing your gf to give you a BJ isn't sexual harrassment. However, I think he should have been promptly fired for fucking someone who reports to him.
UHHHH, you do know that if a bf/husband forces himself then it is called rape, right? Just because you are in a relationship does not mean you have to perform. Geezus.
Google got balls
It's too bad the workforce had to remind them. This and the hiding the google+ security issue. Google, you are just like any other company.
When did they walk out over DeMoreโs wrongful termination? Oh right...
Lol I'm sure that will change a lot of stuff... Google will be better at hiding its shit
You mean bravo Googlers? Google hasnโt done enough to address the issue to deserve a bravo yet.
It takes two to tango. There are plenty of companies out there that arenโt willing listen to their employees nor cultivate a culture where theyโre willing to stand up without fear of retaliation. That should be applauded as well. But to your point much work remains to be done.
โ... nor cultivate a culture where they feel protected to stand up without fear of retaliationโ Yeah right, except when the position isnโt popular, like the guy they fired for speaking his mind on their โprotectedโ internal forums. Double-standard.
