Hello Fam, I'm asking this on behalf of a friend. They want to break into Tech. They have masters in Architecture(US) and about 3 years of experience in Architecture/Construction. Does anyone have any advice? If you have any leads or you know any programs at tech companies that facilitate break ins into Tech for such people, please let me know!! My TC: 230K Friends' TC: 100K #faang #amazon #meta #facebook #apple #netflix
I have a friend who did Architecture then broke into tech. It took a while because they had to start with a no name company. But they utilized their experience with the project management side of architecture as a IT project coordinator then worked their way up. After some experience under their belt and a few certifications they can work their way up to big tech. Will take some time but will absolutely increase their TC.
Thanks!!
Thanks!!
Just say you have 3 years experience as an architect and get hired as as an architect by a tech company. Don’t have to code, just bluff with buzzwords
I don't think that would work
MIT has a professional certificate course for full stack development, do this or something similar then spend time teaching yourself algos and data structures and grind LC.
Thanks!!
Your friend could start out in some architecture software or BIM companies such as Autodesk as a PM or solution architect, and see if they like the tech/software industry. That might be an easier transition and could still make a lot more than the current 100k. a couple of years there might be a good platform to then branch out into real tech companies.
Thanks!!
I’ve interviewed and worked with architects who moved into product and UX design. The architecture mindset is really valuable, your friend will just need to prepare a portfolio of product/UX work and learn how to reframe their arch training. Have them look at the book Solving Product Design Exercises
Thanks!!
I've got a person in their 40s in my team join in a new grad role after a career change. They were in the service industry before this.
Thanks!!
Data Architect?
I'll ask them to look into it!!

Why not? Here is a path at Amazon : Program Manager -> TPM -> SDM. This is possible at Amazon. No need to write a single line of code and they can manage software engineers. Simply awesome.
This is true, but these tend to be the worst managers. They have no idea how to do what they're asking you to do
Yes sir/madam. I am being sarcastic about the shitty SDM bar at Amazon
