Fate of employees: Broadcom bought some parts of the enterprise business. Whoever was not bought is a part of “stranded costs” and will be laid off soon. The consumer business (which contributes 90% of Symantec’s operating income) is still retained and employees are not affected there for now. I might be a stupid optimist but it seems like a great move for whoever is left. TL;DR sold the part of the business that had shitty margin. Sucks for the employees a part of that business. Kept the business thats been performing really well, and I’d say good for those employees.

The technology group also were sent across with broadcom. This group known as STAR are the ones responsible for the underlying detection engines and detections amongst others. Norton are making money at the moment because of lifelock. However no matter how one looks at it the future of the whole thing is in doubt. Full disclosure I work in STAR

Symantec did not include its Consumer Cyber Safety business — Norton LifeLock — in the deal. https://www.channele2e.com/investors/broadcom-acquiring-symantec-enterprise-security-business/
