Broadcom is famous for cost cutting, and for keeping R&D costs to a minimum. The news also states that Broadcom plans to reduce the Symantec headcount by 7%, so there’s that too. But I’d expect the offer you receive in the near term should either be at your same level, or a small increase. Broadcom likely wants Symantec to be a nice revenue stream for them going forward, and in order to accomplish that they need you guys to stay put (well, for now at least). I’d imagine that in the future though, Broadcom will try to keep a lid on expenses for Symantec, so your future TC growth may not be the best with Broadcom at the head of Symantec. ...course, all of this assumes that the Broadcom acquisition clears regulatory review. Given the concerns over the degree of closeness between Broadcom and the Chinese government, there is the very real possibility that the deal will be axed because Symantec products are pretty widely used (including by government agencies).

CA Technologies desperado Nov 15, 2019

You can look at the other answer if you wanna feel good about being part of the shitshow. They are going to lay off the entire support structure and replace it with HCL. Then they would slowly choke each business unit and managers until it starts affecting engineer moral and people start leaving. But they will not hire replacements. Cos every hire has to be approved by CEO. Not kidding. Get off your ass and start looking for a.job.

Are you still working at CA technologies?

VMware SDDC Jun 4, 2022

I want to revisit this note in 2022. This post 👆🏼 is from 2019. Since VMware is in the same boat right now with the impending acquisition. What I’m hearing through rumors is Broadcom will layoff 50% of us, but just read a publicly available article where our president Sumit Dhawan says things are different this time and Broadcom may not use the same strategy as their previous acquisitions, so we may not have as many layoffs as before. OP what was your experience going through the Symantec acquisition after all?
