Has anyone recovered from a broken foot (metatarsal)? If so, could you share stories of what you went through? May be going through this imminently and a bit scared of the impact this will have on my life/job as it may require a cast and/or surgery, and another cast. I also have a very long commute. Any support would be very much appreciated.
Haha yes, broke my fifth metatarsal pretty badly to the point where I had to get surgery. I was on crutches for 6 weeks, which is very inconvenient when you’re going to work, trying to live life, etc. It was also my right foot so they told me not to drive but I taught myself to drive with my left foot. Most important thing is just to joke around about it and don’t let it get you down.
Thanks! What was your surgery and surgical recovery experience like?
Surgery wasn’t too bad, but they don’t let you drive afterward/take uber so you may have to find someone who can give you a ride home. I also had never had surgery before and was pretty nervous but the process was really not bad and not painful. I was determined not to let it get me down and I also had a trip planned coming up so the only day I took off/worked from home was the day I had surgery
Yup. Broke my 5th metatarsal last year. Was in walking boot cast for 3 months. Worked from home for 6 weeks and then joined Office - was convenient as Office is next door. The fracture will take time to heal. I was ok after 15 weeks. Pls follow your doctor’s advice to the T. Take time off if you can and WFH. First month is critical - donot move around or you may displace the fracture. Be mentally strong. I had all sorts of visions of my lifestyle / health being impacted. If you follow your doctor’s advice you’ll be fine in a few months. Don’t over think.
Damn. Thanks. 15 weeks is a long time.
Which one and what kind of fracture? I had an avulsion fracture of my pinky metatarsal playing volleyball. No surgery but I was in a boot (walking cast) for a month and a half. Get a knee scooter from Amazon asap, crutches will ruin your life and if you wait on insurance to give you a scooter you will wait a month. Otherwise, people at work are pretty accommodating and helpful if they see you on a scooter and crutches. Hope it's not a very bad break!
Thank you. I'm not sure yet but the top and sides of my foot are swollen. Getting x-rayed in an hour. I had thought I just sprained it but it seems to be much worse now.
Forgot to mention, if you get the knee scooter on Amazon anthem should reimburse at least part. Not sure about Kaiser
